Poems by Bam Dev Sharma

Tempted to Sing

The afternoon drizzle

drenches

grass and foliage

in the cloudy siren

when windy ruffles

baffle

hawks

which swiftly soar

to poke the serene sky.

The children

tease squirrels

in the fence

singing

love

in the rainy voice

shattering over of light

muffled in thunder

anointing heart.

Moon’s light

is immaculate

encroaching upon

the grassy thick

lulling

the pervasive grasshopper

into benign amazement

dragging

febrile hind leg.

In the nightly clamor

dewy drops trickle

like the mother’s nipple

for the poised red mouth

of the newly born baby.

Somewhere

the numb heart

trickles

weary passions

in the longing rhythm

wooing of clasp and firm

in sigh of joy

in the pensive language

like children

prattling to the sky

and then

everybody

would be tempted

to sing !

Trickling from the Misty Night

The morning begins

with chill

ruffling the leaves

in the luscious garden

to entrap slinging

rays

from the poised hills

like a child

on the mother’s bosom

watching

pellucid, red sky.

Then props the sun

signaling

sagas of the day

faltering and trotting

across meadows

like a toddling child

displaying

disillusioned pride.

rankled in the sky—-

Besmeared are the clouds

spreading

over the blue canvass

pungent

like wishes

imparting

caressing fondle

hidden on the petals

or sepals of the tulip

and marigold

trickling

from the misty night!

Better Separate

I wonder

as they say

unison brings

harmony—-

Possibly

it brings

closeness of body

just like

hanging rocks

on the walls.

We know

the myth of

Leda and Swan

who made unison

by copulating

but what came up ?

nothing

but a befalling curse!

Can we imagine

what fate will we have

if two stars unite ?

no surmise

but sweltering collapse !

And make a conjecture

as what would happen

if the two riverbeds unite ?

we would have no river

but vast expanse

of meadow

instead of bubbling water

with sonorous music!

So

I urge you–

better to separate

until you become one

as oozing layer

on the deep

vast ocean

without

any scraggy rocks.

  1. Bam’s poems seem to dance across the page, each one a tiny flame sings
and invites the reader, to step into the words and enjoy the dance…
