Alfa and Omega / Poem by Dr. Ranjana Sharan Sinha

Poem by Dr. Ranjana Sharan Sinha

Alfa and Omega

The mirror seeks to stretch
the boundaries of her beauty
and creates a xerox of Psyche–
The beautiful maiden
who captivated Eros
by her mesmerizing charm
and made his heart pierced
by one of his own arrows.

The foggy mirror
shifts identity:
The image seems
like a popup
on the computer screen
compelling her
to go offline.

Relieved, the woman
looks at the child
nestled against her breast–
alfa and omega of her existence!

She mourns the countless veils
of ugly decades
that screened
the beauty of the birth.

Running like
swift- footed Atlanta
on the marathon track of life,
She hardly realized the arrival!

Tinsels of grey
make her pray
night and day
for the child who appeared like a ray
bringing bright transformation
in the ‘tenement of clay’.

With her eyes
fixed on the sapling,
she nurses a hope:
May it grow
into a shady emerald tree
before the burning sun
shot with flame
becomes a dim disc
and descends the sky!
