Cleopatra & Pharaoh / Poem by Olfa Philo

Cleopatra & Pharaoh

When Cleopatra met
Pharaoh:

love met
possessiveness

beauty met
greed

devotion met
betrayal

blindness met
opportunism

honesty met
lies

altruism met
egoism

empathy met
arrogance

patience met
restlessness

wisdom met
shallowness

kindness met
violence

silence met
oppression

tolerance met
slyness

understanding met
stubbornness

morality met
corruption

good met
evil

so their union was
dissolved

for they were poles
apart!

their paths were
divergent

their aspirations were
unalike

their interests were
contradictory

their pleasures were
disparate

their beliefs were
antithetical

their souls were
incompatible

their common life was
death…
