Poem by Soumitra Talukder
The caged canary
(Song of my Heart)
Such was the infliction of a fiend named fate,
That it had cast a spell in silence of its rage,
The canary was in the web of its curse,
She was confined in the bars of its cage.
She sang her song of lament,
In the haunt of its melody,
The lyrics dipped in ink of gripe,
Life in disdain yet a fervent plea of love,
It carried away, beyond the ambit of afflict.
Somewhere far beyond the ocean,
There was an angel,
Who heard the euphony of tune!
It had an appeal to lure her
In stupor of her trance!
She smiled and said! Arise,
Let your voice be known
As the sonnet of hope!
Where you can touch the essence of a charm,
To spread a benevolence of joy,
In a spirit of harmony,
Just for a smile forever.
The canary glowed in the crescent of a blaze,
Her destiny was in the realm of her own being,
To fly away in a trail of dazzle,
Her probity was her periphery of bondage,
She was once again born as free.
