THAT IS HOW A MAN DIES / Poem by Ibrahim Honjo

Poem by Ibrahim Honjo

THAT IS HOW A MAN DIES

It was quite an ordinary day
no one paid attention
I knew that already the next morning
there will be no more of the woman
who drank dreams next to me
there will be no memory of yesterday
while the two of us were merging into one
nothing will be any more
she will with her sweet steps
decorate the Grand shining Square
birds will sing a death march to me
that is how a man dies
she does not think about it
as if death never happens
and maybe I will not have my death
but this will be her famous game
the light will be turned off
on an ordinary day
no one will pay attention
only I will know the secret
and think about a woman
at the Grand Square
that is how a man dies
