THE LOST MEMORY (The amnesiac) / Poem by Dr. Jernail Singh Anand

THE LOST MEMORY
(The amnesiac)

This is a nail polish gifted to me
by a friend from Romania.
And this shampoo,
a lovely gift from Della
from England.

I always remember Italy
when my daughter wears a dress
I had bought for her
from Bari.

How these souvenirs
keep me
in constant feel of the
gifting hands and lovely smiles.

And these are small objects.
I wonder
When I drink water
And inhale air,
And eat thousands of dishes
Nor when I see so many birds
And their voices

Never a thought
Has ever entered my head
That somebody gifted me these objects
And He is too kind to remind me.

He silently suffers my amnesia
And keeps looking
into my eyes
And trying to bring back my lost memory.
