Promises Hardened in Platinum / Poem by Linda B. Scanlan

Promises Hardened in Platinum

It occurrs to me
these things cannot be rushed
words are sacred and serious beings
created of crushed gold leaf and hope
promises hardened in platinum
silver’s flaming desire…..

Poetry is the sound the heart makes
as it’s in love with the universe
within it the ineffable
and the difficult to define except
by reference to something –
metaphorical language – that rolls smoothly
off the tongue
pointing to that which is universally recognizable to the heart……

Forged in baptismal fires
an unsheathed sword
cuts through the remains of the day
revealing the heart of the matter
proudly displaying
indistinct dreams of significance
alchemized into words and lines…….

Poetry speaks beyond the senses
to the soul
we sensually delight in the pleasure
of the party
as we dance the light fantastic
from stanza to stanza
music to our ears
the eyes hungrily devour kernels of truth
the heart responds by beating quicker
noticeably moved
we feel somehow changed yet are at a disadvantage to describe –
oh, how so…..

The permeability of skin
invites inhalation of a gossomer-like fragrance produced by the muses
and with pen in hand the bearer waits
for what is known to inspire
seeking truth in every gold nugget offered
to those who suffer
redemption at long last
found in
the in between
of final lines written……….
