Poem by Hajer Smadah

***

Fertility and vegetation you are me lady
In the very lean years,
And the hope and joy
In the dark and gloom
You are Life in its revelations
For your sake I chant my hopes
My dreams emerge
You are the shelter and quietude
And the pulse of heart and conscience

You are the home me lady
In my alienation and loss
In loath and rebellion
You are the scar that is drying
The celebrated martyr
The friend when is betrayed
When dreams fade
You are the dream and aspirations

You are the icon of this time
From the beginning of life, never humiliated
Generosity is your remarkable token
And unselfish sacrifices
Huge salute to you
O Great construction that never scares demolition
