Poems by Maria Dulce Leitão Reis

I read somewhere

We do not give up on what we want.
We give up on what hurts.

Not because we want
But because it hurts so much!
No one likes to live
Like a punching bag
Whether physical or emotional
Reminds us of the flail on the threshing floor
Working out the cereal!

No, we won’t forget …

Stay deep in the background
We do not look
Time eventually takes the pain away
And what stays …
It is a sweet memory

Time is like a still
Distilling the pain
Until it turns white!

I wanted so much
Be a ray of sunshine in your life
I wanted so much
May you be my guiding star!

My love let’s not wait for summer
I want to kiss your voice a lot
I want to feel your warmth in my hand .

I want to hear you say that you love me
Feeling in my body your flames .

Look deep in my eyes
And you will see my heart
Full of love, tied in bundles !

I also need a long hug
I drowned the desires
In the round pebbles of the creek
To forget
That I live alone with loneliness!
