JEALOUSY ATE AWAY HER SOUL
(A collaborative poem on the role of jealousy in love and relationship jointly composed by Nutan Sarawagi and K.Radhakrishnan)

NUTAN

She was in love with a man
Who was hers to care
He loved her more than
She could ever dare
But she doubted his every word
A bird wanting to let herself out
As she lay caged fighting her own emotions out
A soul so rare always waiting to ensnare
As she lay in her lair
Zealously guarding her love
Never willing to share
Hiding it
In her bosom so hard
Suspicious of anyone
Stifling him as
She held him
Close to his heart

RADHAKRISHNAN:-

Then cupid fired his darrts,
Love bloomed in their hearts,
Progression of a friendship,
Resulted in loving relationship.

The lady was under jealousy’s grips,
But jealousy is the termite of relationship,
Suspicion was gnawing her brain,
Her mind could not comprehend logical chain.

All his friendships were regarded with doubt,
She went all out to check them out,
In this jealousy induced assumption,
She reached an illogical conclusion.

She urged him to shun all his contacts,
Fearing that he will undergo romantic attack!!
He obliged her for the sake of love,
But her jealousy persisted somehow.

NUTAN:-

He was torn in despair
For she didn’t believe him
In emotions raging in
Picking on anyone
Who dare eat her fare
In a jealousy beyond repair
But she didn’t
Know he loved her much
She was his life But did she really care

Radhakrishnan

When virus jealousy enters in our mind,
We are so beguiled as to be blind
That virus makes us to cook up a story,
Stories of all lies and allegories.

Stories that make one feel terrible,
Making the unsuspecting one hysterical,
Lies that are unbearable
Making one shed tears invisible.

Jealousy is the cancer of the soul,
It eats away the love in whole,
Jealousy is the sign of insecurity,
An indicator of love’s impurity.

Love is all about respect and trust,
Suspecting is just unjust,
Don’t bury love in the tomb of jealousy,
It makes your outlook lousy.

Nutan

But alas she was beside herself
She saw me as her whore
She eats my insides like a termite does
In me to bore
Eating her own inside
I wonder what it was
What had I done to her
Why was she always
With me at war
Blocking unblocking me
Reflecting her insecurities
A grudge in me she bore
Blocking unblocking me
Reflecting her insecurities
Didn’t she realise
Why was she so insecure
For I was just a plain little bore
She thought I was enamoured by him
A love that loved her more than she could him
She could ever phantom
Now no more
Yet she harboured
Grudging me her love
A love she swore that
I selfishly saw in her enamour
For him her love
To take away even though he was no more
However hard I tried to prove her wrong
In my explanation she wore me on
Unstopping of her hate …as she was fargone
Seized by her jealously
I lay defeated at last
No way to turn
Only to give her remorse in return
At her every turn
Unable to bear the brunt
To relent
If you really loved him
You would not hurt him thus
You would believe in your love in him to not burn
The love you had for him to never return
Just leave me out
Live in him
Don’t burn
But she was unwilling in her concern
Willing to burn his memories in her deceitful concern
That even if he had not loved me I had definitely …….
A point of no return
She had reached
I just let her
In him her effigy burn

Radhakrishnan

All his friendships were regarded with doubt,
She went all out to check them out,

She reached an illogical conclusion.

Fearing that he will undergo romantic attack!!

Nutan:-

So stricken she was that
He couldn’t even appraise
His love for poetry in another’s praise
Especially if she was a woman
Her eyebrows to raise

Poor man he felt in her love so caged
Without her consent
No friendships he couldn’t ever make ..
Controlled in her love
Unable to break
A life no more his with her to take
But loyal he was a friend
Unable to fake
In his truth her lie to take
In a fortress he built around himself
He burnt in her love
Tied to her stake

RADHAKRISHNAN

God of death beckoned him one day,
It is sad this has to happen this way,
She was so sad and weeping away,
But her jealousy continued to stay.

Thinking, while he was alive, had an affair,
Adding her own and others despair,
Even she dared to enquire,
Asking his friends to declare.

Jealousy has corroded his fond memories,
Imagining all those unreal stories,
Infecting conscience and adding worries,
She requires cure of her jealousy.
