Night is like love and water / Poem by Santiago Ali

Poem by Santiago Ali

Night is like love and water

Night weepers
You are stars whose lights have not reached yet the eyes of the earth
Or else charmer girls
who play with stone, wind and the wolves in the moon
Would fall in love without knowing why
Under a stellar spell

Night weepers
You are like children-faced flowers who always look in the distance of the sky
Which poured down all of their Innocence in a most cherished forlorn hope
Of the sweetest curve of some lips
Touching the heat of their foreheads

Night weepers
You are stars, flowers, sinners or saints
All tears taste the same
And your light has not knocked yet on the beloveds heart
Only then will you know

Night is like love and water

Life burns
Like a lamp on the top of a most magnificent naked mountain
When in the merger of lips love enters to sleep in the dark

Drawn into the whirling ambush of the water
Many a thirsts have sunk
With lips wildly parted
Holding in abeyance
Those words which have never been uttered by the ones who drowned in their Own eloquence
And now sleep forever young in the abyss

Night weepers
Night is like love and water
And Dawn is another story
