Poem by Membis Okorie Chukwukamma
A LETTER TO NZE OBIASOGU
Truly, good men become gods
And gods become men’s force
So whenever it begins to rain,
Do not leave me like shadows,
Rather, call me into your train
And ride me through all towns
You are the engine of my breath
And the rivers of me; new entity.
Do remain my spiritual strength,
My pillar till the end of eternity.
Oh! Nze Obiasogu, saintly spirit
Oh! Lover of peace and serenity
You are the gent wind of charity,
Love icon, hardwork and honesty
My caring chi who lived as a man,
For building giant mansion at heart
To accommodate fully _all men
I honour your spirit so benevolent
Nze Obiasogu my brightest star!
Come closer, do not go too far!
The storm is here! , please come!
Do not let my ship to sink!, come!
Come! in your glory yet so gently
So I could float again weightlessly
Be my moon throughout the night
And my sun when the day is bright
For I am your sprouting giant root
And you are the previous Iroko Tree
That stood here so tall. Till death_
Do guide my honey like a busy bee.
