POKOK KERTAS ITU TEGAK SENDIRIAN (ALONE STANDS THE PAPER TREE) – Lucilla TRAPAZZO  / Translated into BAHASA MELAYU by Siti Ruqaiyah HASHIM

Poem by Lucilla TRAPAZZO

ALONE STANDS THE PAPER TREE

in the saffron plain.
Barren of stones and sands.
The brittle branches stretch.
Next, a small rock leans
on its shelter shadow.
The roots expand beyond this very time
and space. One single thought
one single self
the language of the trees.
Forever turns to red the land
of sand and stones
in the light of owls
burning for the rain that was
when it was life and plants
and melodies of birds
fertile moons and lakes and seas.
It’s just a whiff a glimpse this solitary
memory on the parched skin.
I close the chapter. I close the door
to the vanishing point.
Sandstones and trees and thoughts
I set you free.

POKOK KERTAS ITU TEGAK SENDIRIAN

di tanah datar kekuningan itu
Batu-batu dan pasir kering kontang
Ranting rapuh bercerawang
Di tepinya, satu batu kecil condong
di bawah bebayang yang melindunginya.
Akarnya menjalar jauh ke masa lampau
dan ruang. Hanya satu tujuan
dan seorang diri
itulah bahasa pokok-pokok ini.
Selamanya memerahkan tanah
pasir dan batu batan
membakar lilin di waktu malam
bagi hujan yang telah turun
untuk tumbuhan dan kehidupan
dan kicauan melodi burung-burung
waktu bulan, tasik dan lautan masih subur.
Ianya hanya sekilas ingatan
memori tunggal ini
menyentuh kulit kering ku.
Ku tutup babak. Ku tutup pintu
hingga ke titik penghabisan.
Pasir berbatu dan pokok dan ingatan
Ku bebaskan engkau.
