THE STORIES OF WALLS

1989 – Stirling

Sitting around with talks in hushed voices
in Mac Robert Library
Pasha received call from Prague
I could still remember Vaclav’s words
‘Come here quickly
we will go to Berlin
for the rest of your life
you will never regret it
watching love demolishing wall of hatred
humanity had defeated tanks and missiles!’

2013 – Kampala

Mira Nair spoke from her heart as usual
‘Thank you for the invitation and the honour
but sorry I wont go to Haifa
as long as that ugly wall stands’

Then I whispered to you
how am I going to visit you in hospital?
because there is a little sentence in my passport
that says I cant go to your country

Sometimes ago
watching video clip on Al-Jazerra
Najwa the beautiful young bride
was sobbing uncontrollably
leaving Ramallah
as she was following Tariq her husband To Gaza
my silent tears celebrated their marriage
thinking about Najwa who cant go back to her village forever

The whole night I couldn’t sleep
remembering Najwa and Tariq’s sweet- sad love union
becoming close to me.

CERITA-CERITA TEMBOK

1989 – Stirling

Sewaktu duduk-duduk di Perpustakaan Mac Roberts
Seorang dari kami menerima panggilan dari Prague
Masih ku ingat kata Vaclav
‘Cepat datang ke sini kita akan ke Berlin
Seumur hidup mu kau tak kan menyesal
Melihat cinta merobohkan tembok kebencian
Kemanusiaan telah mengalahkan kereta kebal dan peluru
berpandu!’

2013 – Kampala

waktu meninggalkan Ramallah
kerna mengikut suaminya Tariq ke Gaza
aku juga turut sebak
mengingat Najwa tidak boleh
balik ke kampungnya sampai bila-bila

Semalaman aku tak dapat melelapkan mata
memikirkan penyatuan cinta indah-sedih Najwa dan Tariq
yang semakin dekat dengan ku rupanya!

IN JABALIYA

Rami Anbar’s daughter, 13 years old

Said she never saw her father’s face

But carried his big photo around proudly

Where ever she goes all over the places

And it was a special day for them

She and her mum Suhair

Given permission to visit him in Meggido Prison

DI JABALIYA

Kata anak Rami Anbar, 13 tahun

Dia tak pernah melihat wajah bapanya

Tapi gambar besarnya

Diusung penuh bangga ke sini dan ke sana

Dan hari itu cukup istimewa bagi mereka

Kerna dia dan ibunya, Suhair

Dapat keizinan melawatnya di Penjara Meggido.
