ALBANIA WEEPS, SOLIDARITY BEHOLD / Poem by Leonard Dabydeen‎

Poem by Leonard Dabydeen

ALBANIA WEEPS, SOLIDARITY BEHOLD

In the staggering despair of rumbling quakes
screams and outcries beleaguered a people
that shuddered from their sleep.
Albanians flee
somewhere to go to
nowhere to turn to
hopes and dreams uprooted
as brick on brick heaps into rubbles
Tirana glaring in awe
Thumane in crying pain
survivors dust themselves
to harness rescue of broken bodies
tabbing dead
in disbelief, sadness
out of the embrace of good faith
survivors slowly recuperate
to be well
for tomorrow.
In prayer we pray
a better day will come.
