IN THE FACE OF DEATH / Poem by Kichime Elisha PHILIBUS

Poem by Kichime Elisha PHILIBUS

IN THE FACE OF DEATH

She twitched
And yawned a twisted
Pout of pitiful pains,

As if in deliberate contortion;
Like a Contortionist
Displaying the skills of her
Trade;

Suddenly
In an eclamptic epilepsy
She gasped in near sigh
Of protest for victory.

She held firm her closed
Palms;as if to yell
A resistance.

She squirmed like a worm
In brine
And swathed in a sickly struggle
To survive.

She seemed to plead
As if she would be spared
The wrath;

But her lips peered in a gimmerish
Conversation
To say her only warning
Of the great beyond seen.

Oh,how
In a calm and hopeless
Quest
She heaved a heavy heave of relief
In a seeming
painless defeat.
