DARKNESS AND LIGHT
(Mahatma Gandhi)

In Birla House, his gatherings Bapu
Greeted with prayers, solace, and comfort
And cheerfully rose, clasping hands with few
Humming Vashnava Jana To in sort.

In frisky style Bapu exited door
To trail of family and friends in cue
To greet gatherers cheering by the score
Whispering, Ram, Ram, Sita Ram; Bless you.

Stepping out on the lawn, Bapu sparkled
A Light to the world beyond India
To sudden bullets from Nathuram, filled
With anger, darkness in the arena.

Assassination of Bapu blinded
This whole wide world that is so corrupted.

THIS LIFE
(villanelle poem)

Zindagi aur kuch bhi nahin, teri meri kahaani hai
(Life is nothing more but the story of you and me.)

This life is a story of you and me:
What’s in it that makes it so difficult
For us to sever bond of harmony.

In the beginning it wasn’t easy
How we dated each other as adult;
This life is a story of you and me.

Sometimes we talked about dreams endlessly
Of places, and then suddenly find fault
For us to sever bond of harmony.

Fantasies were beyond what we could see –
No turning back, only a somersault;
This life is a story of you and me.

When an empty dish would share our pity
We plaited our hopes, dreams not by default
For us to sever bond of harmony.

Oft times we toured the world, city by city
Not knowing we’d come to an abrupt halt
This life is a story of you and me
For us to sever bond of harmony.

ONCE UPON A NIGHT
(Sonnet)

Once upon a night I walk in the dark
Alone on a quiet pathway, thinking
I must visit a friend without skylark.
Lo and behold the moon begins glowing

Behind stealthy clouds now wandering by
I begin to move faster, hurrying.
Without much thought, I just cannot tell why
I scurry along in glow of the moon

And my feet move like butterfly.
My destination I hope to reach soon
But God forbid I continue to run
And my shadow dances like a buffoon.

Visiting a friend is just so much fun
And the moon is vigil to see this done.

AUTUMN
[Fib Poem]

Wind
brings
cool breeze
to welcome
Autumn serenade
while Summer heat bows out slowly
and trees exult in cornucopia of colours.
