ODE TO FREEDOM / Poem by Mahmoud Said Kawash

Poem by Mahmoud Said Kawash
In our country, the pride dies in the souls of the politicians
They eat the “haram” mixed with the complaints of the people
Pray in the sanctuaries, where the prophets died
Spend the nights on the praise and tons of supplication
Fall asleep at dawn within the arms of hypocrisy
While our country reaps death with tears and blood
The roar of the victorious heroes has reached the sky
Our country boils “a revolution in the hearts of revolutionists”
Who raise their voices above the throats saying:
Our ears got bored of the bells and the sound of candlesticks
Our delegations came back filled with piles of losses
We are revolutionists singing our own revolution
Refusing to sing the tone of solace seventy years more
We love our country and never give up our love for freedom
