Letter From India / Poem by NilavroNill Shoovro

Poem by NilavroNill Shoovro

Letter From India

It is not the dead bodies that matter
Floating along the banks of the rivers
It is not the orphans that matter
Crying around the empty homes
It is not the vultures that matter
Hovering over the rotten flesh

It is about the story of the people
Counting the numbers
Keeping eyes on deadly statistics
It is about the story of the people
Remaining safe in-home isolation
Writing reciting singing and dancing

Time tells the stories of naked truths
Mirrors capture the moments of naked souls
Words remain helpless to portray them
Still, I cannot sleep at midnight
Still, I cannot air my muffled voice
Still, I remain an Indian, OH’ God!
