HUMAN LO

The terrible attraction
to strangers

The fear like a burden
of how to be
with your loved one

O the solemn certainly
of plants!

Their love
they have entrusted
to the insects
the birds
and the wind

Translated from Russian by Steve Holland

CREATIVITY

Creating a lyric
in the age of the epic

creating a tragedy
in the age of the ode

creating a man
in the age of mankind

creating good
in the age of do-gooders

creating one’s own
in the age of ownerships

creating the strange
in the age of the calculated

creating
in the age of the created

amid permitted miracles
forever creating-

this prohibited
miracle

RUSSIA’S DREAM

Russia sleeps in cold dew
and dreams
that it is America:
its chatterers are congressmen
its loafers are the unemployed
its hooligans are gangsters
its drunkards are drug addicts
its profiteers are businessmen
its Russians are Blacks
and it must fly to the Moon

Russia awakens in cold sweat
everything appears to be in place
chatterers are chatterers
loafers are loafers
hooligans are hooligans
Russians are Russians
only it must land
in the right place

and Russia again falls asleep
and stirs a Russian idea –
that America sleeps and dreams
that it is Russia

Poème de Viatcheslav Kouprianov

Amour humain

Effroyable attrait
pour un étranger

Attrayant effroi
d’être
avec qui l’on aime

O solennelle assurance
des végétaux !

Ils ont confié
leur amour
aux insectes
aux oiseaux
et au vent

Création

Créer le lyrisme
à l’âge de l’épopée

créer la tragédie
à l’âge de l’ode
créer l’homme
à l’âge de la foule

créer le bien
à l’âge de l’usufruit

créer de l’inédit
à l’âge du déjà vu

créer le hasard
à l’âge du calcul

au milieu des prodiges licites
créer à jamais

le miracle
interdit

Le songe de la Russie

La Russie dort dans la froide rosée
et rêve
qu’elle est l’Amérique :
ses bavards sont sénateurs
ses paresseux sont chômeurs
gangsters sont ses voyous
camés sont ses ivrognes
businessmen ses trafiquants
et nègres sont ses russes

En sueur froide la Russie se réveille
tout est resté en place semble-t-il :
les bavards sont des bavards
les paresseux des paresseux
voyous les voyous
et russes les russes

La Russie de nouveau s’endort
et en elle s’éveille une idée russe :
l’Amérique dormant et rêvant
qu’elle est la Russie
