I am Alive to Write the Conclusion of Time – Poem by Dr. Jawaz Jaffri / Translated into English by Sara Ali Khan

Poem by Dr. Jawaz Jaffri

I am Alive to Write the Conclusion of Time

Upon my lush green crops
Explosives are showering
I dedicate fecundity of that being
To my farms!

My heaven has been burnt to ashes
There’s no place for me
In her side
I paint god’s old face
Upon Sadaqain’s canvas
God who is facing erasure
The birds of Lahore
Write farewells
On the cut down trunks of trees
They have to go read heavenly writing
Please don’t hunt them!

My country
Is still safe upon the map of the world
In place of Srinagar there’s rubble heap
I’m surviving outside my body like Buddha
I don’t need a grave on earth
I’m buried inside a heart near the bank of river Chanab
And I’m alive
You can’t understand this!

The air coming from the last corners of the world
Impregnates the fire
The fire
Reads my cities
I pick up my extinguished moments
From the heap of ashes
My body’s debris

War has reached my suburbs
They are coming to try their weapons
On my children
The world’s ending
Is just a span away from me
I’m alive to write down
Time’s conclusion!
Is solving in the air.!
