My father (אבי) / Poem by Shoshana Vegh

Poems by Shoshana Vegh

My father

My father hears the cries of Jews crying
He hears the screams of the town butcher
A bully who pushed the German soldier
To the fire of the village where the holy books were burned
An act of heroism before his death

This is how my father wants to remember his childhood
Even when my father hears the cry of a lost child
He remembers his mother who lost her husband
It was my grandfather I did not know
Who was killed in a bombing of a train
My father hears the cries of Jews weeping
Transfers me to memory charge stores
And essentially acts of heroism
