Poem by Madhu Gangopadhyay
A PIECE OF ART; MY BIRTH!
The swing of childhood days
Soaring high beneath the creamy blue sky
The world so tranquil beside me stood
I could while away those carefree days
Those dreamy moments of approaching youth!
As I grew in height, the world that appeared so bright
Turned upside down, my today, grimaced and frowned!
The sky still upon me, high!
The soil below cold and dry.
I searched for the reposeful green,
The once lofty mountain serene!
Immersed in industrial haze,
Standing on the bridge of age, I gazed.
The empty swings, stilled pendulum,
A stark reminder, I still possess the power to burn,
Glow and leave a shinning spark;
My signature, a tiny mark!
Not waste this birth, a golden chance.
In this huge ocean of mankind
Before I am reduced to ashes,
A Rembrandtish art piece,
I too was beautiful once!
Could I seal my mortal presence
With an everlasting kiss?
