Poem by Dr. Jernail S. Aanand
THE CYCLE OF WAR
It is language which is the hall mark of our civilization.
When we love, we talk of the stars,
The moon, the sun, the flowers.
But when we hate,
Where are our words of curse?
To call someone Satan, Beelzebub, Witch
Is more saintly
Than treating them with kashkalnikovs,
Which is our most original and ancient language,
Which underlines the beginnings of civilization
When men simply fought to survive.
If today our issues are the same,
To survive
And in order to survive, use force,
And then force, not of love, that is divine,
But of atomic weapons,
Whose historical witnesses are Nagasaki
And Hiroshima,
If civilization is a cycle from force to force
And weapons to weapons
From war to war,
From killings to killings
And if by the day killings are turning into a star show of insanity,
And men, turning monsters
Oh ..let us look back to that grand old world
When we had no rockets, only carts
When an arrow could kill only one person.
A few died for so many to survive.
While today, can you count
How many die, to keep so few alive????
