NO HIERARCHY / Poem by Laksmisree Banerjee

Poem by Laksmisree Banerjee

NO HIERARCHY

we perch in joy
on varied branches
of leafy stairs in-built
in trees
green pedestals for songsters
voice- throws from
our different cadenced levels
twigs and foliage of calm
offering our deep balm
we sing in diverse sonatas
tones and tenors of blithe expressions
since the essence is our
song
as we mirror life
with no hierarchy—

song-birds that we are
swallows, parrots, magpies, cuckoos
birdies of so many hues
so many shades, octaves
whispers and cries
of our chirping art
since the essence is our song
as we mirror life
with no hierarchy—

butterflies of riotous colours
flap and fritter with us in
their colourful garden
of honeyed succulence
bathing and sipping nectar
singing their melodies of love
since the essence is our song
as we mirror life
with no hierarchy—–

a red carpet of flowers
kisses and lies at my feet
the same that adorns my coronet
bouquet of flowers that I
present my love with
flowers of love strewn
on my path to life or death
through glory and shame
flowers that sing my song
since the essence is our song
as we mirror life
with no hierarchy—
