CHAURASI KUTIYA* / Poem by Jagdish Prakash

Poem by Jagdish Prakash
Hear strumming of guitar
Mingled with soft ripples of Ganga
Hear subtle sounds of Om reverberating over rhythmic murmur of leaves,
See someone humming , someone sitting still
Hear the symphony of rustling leaves
rising over strolling silence.
They meditate with eyes closed
Drawing the universe within
The sun, the moon, stars and galaxies
Seen in the domain of heart
Ordinary men rising to the height of sky.
See a Yogi in Anand mudra
Teaching Beatles the art of meditation,
Nuances of soul science
See the Yogi’s smiles; his words rising over songs George Harrison starts;
“Dehradun, Dehradun, Dehradun, Dehradun@
Many roads can take you there, many different ways
One direction takes you years, another takes you days”…….
Others join, a festival of happiness begins
Galaxies dance, gandharvas join the chorus
Trees swing, birds rise high
A magic unfolds
My eyes closed
I stand in ruins of the hall
Where yogi once stood among them
And sound of Om echoed from every corner of Chaurasi Kutiya.
* An Ashram complex, also known as Beatles Ashram, deep in jungles on the bank of Ganga near Rishikesh where Mahesh Yogi once taught Transcendental Meditation to people among whom were the Beatles, the famous musicians and a galaxy of celebrities from music fraternity and Hollywood.
@ Dehradun is a town close to Rishikesh in the foothills of Mussoorie hills. It was at Ashram that George Harrison wrote and composed the song “ Dehradun”
