Alessandra, the gift that saves us Di Mariateresa Protopapa, Santoro editions / Short essay by Claudia Piccinno

Alessandra, the gift that saves us
Di Mariateresa Protopapa, Santoro editions

A prophetic writing that of Mariateresa Protopapa, an Apulian doctor and humanist, who translated into English on her own, a volume which, while respecting the internal divisions, can be read as unicum, as an aesthetic and theological ethical manifesto of the poet’s creed.
A woman inspired by a profound faith; Mariateresa has faith, not only in God, but in the potential of the industrious and supportive man who works for the other, making available what he knows or what he can do.
In the silence of the Universe / I’m always here / to sing the life, /
to praise dust and earth
There is the scientist in these verses, but there is also the person who has made of  his humanitas a mission of help and beauty. The beauty you see everywhere: See beauty / where there is not, / sees the right / where it is denied.
Great impact has poetry in its life, but she reconciles it with her scientific work and she knows that everything changes, except the firmness of the heart
everything changes / but not the heart / of the cantor of soul.
He knows no fear / the cantor of the soul / strong of seeing far away

of seeing / where no one sees.
For him, fear is a friend / to describe the one who does not want to see / what is not explained / and the look expresses.
Among the various topics, she analyzes the role of the poet, whom she calls the soul singer, in today’s society. She attributes a great value to the true poet: that of not being afraid. This reminds me of Franco Loi’s communicative power, when he says that the word is flesh and blood. If the poet faces himself and the world without fear, then the words flow without artifice and without fear.
There is an implicit parallelism in the lines of Doctor Protopapa between the Creator and the poet, because both manifest themselves in the light of truth (more manifest in the work of God, as aspiration in that of the singer)
There is no similarity / between him and the fake / between him and the liar, / between him and the dark.
Always light it is / and it will be
wherever he is / as if it were a lamp
in the hand of God / that looks out / to see his children
Certainly in the inspiration of artists, she admits the supernatural element
The beloved gift / from God came
and like God, / everything accepts

Yet she recognizes free will as the responsibility of the human being:
therefore the cantor / he sings that there is no differencenor privilege / under the heaven of Godsince it cannot be composed / nor find compromise / to the contrary fate; / it never depends on man./knows no obstacle / the hand of the cantor / as an echo among the peaks
However, the questions about our time, torn by the effects of noise and speed, are persistent and the poet suggests that the slow time of waiting and reflection is necessary It does not remain / what a dream,It does not remain / what a sweet caress,no noise/And more (from Verses of love)
I ask for comfort and never had answers/to questions never given.
… So what’s left? / Also this time try, / attempt the journey / no hurry / because this too has a value, / dictated by silence / and from the flow of evenings / come to be born / destined to die./Then ask yourself why,
Ask yourself why..
recites one of his compositions ..
Every good self-respecting book hides questions,it  leaves no answers.
You need to seek them silently within yourself. This is the great lesson of this book: the value of silence, maybe to discover the gift that saves us.

La ricompensa / Poesie di Claudia Piccinno

La ricompensa
Io, pendolare dei cieli
per amore filiale.
Io che temevo le giostre
e il vuoto a perdere.
Organizzare tutto
nei minimi dettagli
lasciare il compito
ai miei alunni,
le chiavi alla vicina,
il gatto in pensione.
Io che la domenica
non andavo a messa
scopro un’altra forma
di preghiera.
E non mi pesa questo
se la ricompensa
è ancora il suo sorriso.
