Life without a mask / Poem by Maki Starfield

Poem by Maki Starfield

Life without a mask

Corona
Because you are a virus
Please do not forget to fly
Away

Whenever I go out to the city,
people wearing masks dream about
Life without a mask
The laughter of people hugging each other

Because you are a virus
Please do not forget:

How long will you make us wear our masks?

Even now
I don’t want to put it on
Whispering that I don’t want to put it on
I exist like other people

Because you won’t leave here
I’m pretty tired
For I remember the good memories
when I saw the fantastic dance,
Enjoying the sunset in Bali last summer
In a single room
I yearn for it softly.
