I don’t need the light to recognise my shadow / Poem by Lily Swarn

Poem by Lily Swarn

I don’t need the light to recognise my shadow

My Shadow –
It doesn’t vanish in the dark
It stalks me like a secret service agent
Wearing my borrowed plumes
Disguised in mufti
Always on laborious duty
I smell it’s pervasive dominating outline
Defying my pure Aura with its blackened visage
I hear it’s silent footfalls on my timorous heart
It never lets me be in peace
Changing shapes and sizes with the haughty sun
It sneaks up in front and then startles me from behind
It jumps all fences and facades to be by my side
If only it wasn’t you who broke my heart
For no shadow could be closer to my body than you
It was my soul that was shadowless
Lonesome and widowed
Furtively looking for your invisible ethereal presence
Believe me , I don’t need the light to recognise my shadow
