Ghazal-16

Bodies floating in the Ganga, millions dead on this land, no words!
Dogs lying asleep next to withered corpses on brown sand, no words!

Why the cuckoo’s song is plaintive– no longer the siren of spring?
Slammed doors of humanity– kindness now a sneaky band, no words!

The moonbeams reach the earth silently– the touch of peacock feathers,
Today she is not awake to be loved– emotions vanned, no words!

An uncharted island with uncertainties, death lurks in the air,
The wild storm and the vagaries of time– how to withstand, no words!

Vapours of memories linger, the vast clock and its tick and tock,
How I wish I could find some fragrant flowers close at hand, no words!

I see the black robe of the sky getting replaced with the bright one,
I savour the beauty– the vault an iridescent band, no words!

Sorrows, Ranjana, like a dark midnight cloud eclipse our lives,
In a lacerated world we need Hope– a magic wand– no words!
