Reddening Reds / Poem by Lily Swarn

Poem by Lily Swarn
Reddening Reds
It’s the warning vermillion in the centre parting
Smeared in a newly wedded bride’s gleaming hair
It’s the flaming fire in the stomach of hungry orphans
Looking into five star grandeur and plush vehicles from tinted glasses
It’s the blazing forest begging for succour
The orange inferno swallowing vanishing wildlife
It’s the wounded sun hoping to rise again next morn
To ignite the dark world with fresh sunshine
It’s the coral embroidery of maple leaves
Leaving chinar imprints on my chiffon saree
It’s russet autumn leaves blushing in shame
Knowing they’ll soon have to escape under the earth
