3 poems from “Meditations in the Feminine” / Michela Zanarella

3 poems from “Meditations in the Feminine”

Sparks of Life

In these bones
I travel
and I carry with me
the little sparks of life.
I unearth heat,
take in breath,
I love.
I want
to stay in this skin,
I want it to remain
magic
in destiny.
I want you to erupt
out of me
and I want to know
the taste of the sea.

My Growing Woman

Will to the roots
and calm superior to spirit,
my growing woman
on the fans of time’s fire.
Maybe it is the desire of the sky:
the blood runs
and it helps me to discover the love
of sunrises.
I chase lumps of light
and brotherly silences,
in my steps a meeting
of childhoods and paradises uninhabited.
I try with strength
a way
and I shout to encounter life
at death.

Meditations in the Feminine

In a pleasant skin
I find myself
together with arteries,
with precious desire.
I do not care for time
or for the silence
that enters like rain.
The sky and the love
satisfy my breath
after a privilege
divine to life.

(poems are translated by Leanne Hoppe)

«This movement creates fluidity in the volume while also allowing for intersections that surprise the reader. The actions of the speaker mimic one’s interactions with the world, the self-discovery that so many poets lead readers through, tuned up a key, to the feminine ending. What follows are poems that fall into the canon somewhere between personal and pastoral, that draw the reader to challenge her ideas about what creates a voice, how nature connects to our senses, to our being.»

From the preface by Leanne Hoppe, Meditations in the Feminine(Bordighera Press, 2018)
