Ellipsis(…) / Poem by Dr. Ranjana Sharan Sinha

Poem by Dr. Ranjana Sharan Sinha
Spreading out into different
Spectrum of colours–
Iridescent, kaleidoscopic,
I am a woman– the creator:
Chiselling, carving,scratching!
At times, a Sita
walking through the flames,
Agonies buried deep down,
Tagged as being ‘weak’ or ‘vulnerable’;
At times, a fiery, captivating,Draupadi–
Disrobed and humiliated.
A homemaker with a clammy face
Making bread for my hungry children–
Eyes fixed on the watch
To catch up the morning session;
The distance between
The rolling pin in the kitchen
And the driver’s seat in the car
Is covered in one stride!
On dark days–
I become an avatar of Kali:
The true badass
Rocking the earth and the sky,
With long mane of hair,
The bloodied sword,
And a necklace
Of the heads of my victims,
Crushing the god of destruction
Under my feet!
Slicing through
My subtly-changing
And surprising selves,
I find too much worth analysis:
How do I weave
A thousand years
Into a single moment?
‘Inscrutable’ remains
‘The ways of a woman’s heart’!
A funambulist
Walking on a tight rope–
The rope a long line with ellipsis
Placed at the end!
The unexpressed
Monochromatic truths:
Truths with different shades
Of the same colour,
Linger in the cobwebs of heart
Waiting to be filled in the blanks!
