Maria  Miraglia

I was born and live in Italy, a country I love a lot even if often prefer to say I’m a citizen of the world. I graduated in Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Bari and also got a master’s degree in Evaluation and Assessment at the same University in Bari, a master’s degree in Teaching of Modern Languages at the University of Rome and the HLC (highest- level Certification) from Trinity College-UK. I taught in public high secondary  schools , was lecturer in courses for post-graduate students, in courses for language teachers and tutors in English, Scottish and Irish colleges for Italian students. I collaborated with the Ministry of Education for studies and projects relating to international language certifications. For a long time an active member of Amnesty International for the defense of human rights, now co-founder of World Foundation for Peace, which has over 6,000 members. Recently some of my poems have been included in an antologia– “Petals in the Clouds” edited by the publishing house Rupe Mutevole, Parma, Italy– by six Italian poets. I also had the pleasure to be chosen as a featured poet in Pentasi B World Friendship Poetry and am a contributor of many poetry groups’ pages both in English and Italian languages.

Poems by  Maria  Miraglia

I will no longer peer
into my soul
to understand the motions
of my heart
where they come from
which are their roots
the reasons of their often
strange unknown passages

I’ve tried so many times
but to look inward
is how to turn my gaze
to the whole universe
while going with my thoughts
further and further

My soul less known to my Self
than the dark voids
beyond the wide horizon

And now I want no more
going on querying
to crucify or offer it incense
but silently listen and
hold in due account
its emotions and feelings

It is it that dominates my life
not me to be the master of it
It’s there the core of my being
and to it I’ll bow
with respect and attention

Like a sunflower
in the garden of love
turning its head around
until the sunset comes
to catch the living energy

Because it loves life
and wants to enjoy the light
and all the warm rays
coming from up there

Ready the morning after
to move its head again
in search of the sun
and live a new born day
with all it may bring.

If you feel unhappy
and in your heart dwells
a deep sorrow
come to me, my dear
I’ll tell you to surrender
your whole self to nature
that never betrays

Give your welcomes
to the winds the sun and
the clouds that come and go
as anything down here

Forgive and forget
so many the frailties
in men’s hearts
as corn ears
under the warm sun
in the endless fields

Let it be
and all the load
of your human worries
will vanish in one moment
like when you wake up
from a nightmare.
