An Anti War Poem: My Poems are a Preface to Peace (Dedicated to Lenuș Lungu) – Poem by Dr. Jawaz Jaffri / Translated by: Sara Ali Khan

Lenuș Lungu

An Anti War Poem

My Poems are a Preface to Peace

Dedicated to Lenuș Lungu, A well known writer and Editor World Literary Magazine “Cronos”  (Italy)

My people
Turned their backs on
Colours
And letters
And they scribble on their pale brows
Word of applause for deadly weapons

The fire rising from the last corners of the world
Is reducing my cities to ashes
The shadow of machine gun measures our bodies
My poems serve as a preface to peace
But they are burnt in the middle of crossways

They have no reckoning
Of the immortality of word
They are hostile towards my poems
They can exterminate me
But never my verses
