RANN OF KUTCH

THE NIGHT WENT BERSERK

FLIRTING WITH MOON

FROM NOWHERE TO NO WHERE

KISSING THE WHITE SANDS

IN RAPTUROUS FRENZY

THAT DECEMBER NIGHT.

THE WAY WARD WINDS,

COLD BUT SENSUOUS,

RAN LIKE NYMPHOMANIACS

FOR SOMETHING CALLED INFINITY.

THE VIRGIN EARTH COVERED

LIKE A CANVAS, PAINTED WHITE

ETCHED BY A RADIANT GLOW OF MOONSHINE

ON WHICH WE ROLLED OUR DESIRES,

SPELL BOUND, STUNNED, SILENT

SILHOUETTED WE STOOD BY SHADOWS

CELEBRATING FULFILLMENT OF WILD WISHES.

AN UNDEFINED ECSTASY RAN

THROUGH OUR BODY PORES

SENSATIONS OVERTOOK THE WORDS

INTENTIONS AROUSED

HEARTS DANCED A TANGO

TILL THE MOON RECEDED INTO A DARK HORIZON

AND A SONG EMERGED OVER SILENT PRAYERS

WHICH I DEDICATE TO YOU

O’ RANN OF KUTCH

–JAGDISH PRAKASH

Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh in the Thar Desert in the Indian state of Gujarat. The white desert gets transformed into a magical landscape on full moon nights.
