Poem by George Onsy

***

During those
Long nights
Whispers to the moon:
I would forgive you
When you hide
Your beauty,
Behind those veils
Of dark clouds,
Being shy of
My eyes
Full of admiration,
My warm sighs,
My songs woven
Out of my heartbeat’s
Intonations.

But listen!

I wouldn’t forgive you
When you come,
Dressed in
Your circular beauty,
Only ones a month
So late,
Too late.

Oh God,
How I hate
To wait
And wait!
And if I miss
Your moon
So much,
When it comes back
With its full
Smiling face,
How could I
Embrace
What’s too far
To embrace?
