THE LORD’S SUPPER & TODAY’S HUNGER FOR IMMUNITY

Once on a Holy Thursday,
My brush tried to draw
The shining incarnation
Of the Immortal Life as He,
Right in the middle,
Is feeding disciples, who form
With their very bodies,
The table or the altar
Of the sacramental offering.
They are coming from
All races, all colors, all beliefs
And his rope, color of blood-red
Of self-giving, is knitting them all
With all their odds and contrasts
Into a perfect Heavenly Harmony
So their hands join along
A chain of unbreakable solidarity
To end at the very heart
Of that universal gathering,
Forming a human cup
And a living plate,
Both are meant to overflow
With the body and blood
Of that Eternal Love incarnated
To give Himself at a final battle
For conquering death,
Whatever death can be.

These days’ Holy Thursday,
When death goes proudly
Unchained and wild
I would say …
What a sweet vaccine
That’s being given to us
For free … for free
To eliminate forever
This fearful pandemic
And if we believe,
God’s Glory we’ll surely see.

With my painting done in the Coptic iconographical style: THE LOVE SUPPER (Paris 1982). Some explanation:
The disciples in this work are already 12 excluding Judas who is cut into two parts on the right and the left below the scene. That means that Mattias who was to replace him afterward is already there.
The joining hands of two races, white and black, form the containers, the plate, and the cup, of this consecration.
