To Jasmine Flowers / Poem by Pushmaotee Subrun

To Jasmine Flowers

You are the loveliest, the most vibrant,
You are the most fragrant,
But you last for a brief while,
My heart pains to see you simply for a while,
Fade in beauty and die too soon.
Like the fading moon.

So are we!
Little creatures, puny.
Our vanity, our youth, our ego,
Our health, our wealth, away blow,
What remains goes back to the soil.
For many, after a life of turmoil.

But there is a difference,
Not only for beauty a quintessence,
You paragon of beauty are not a dissembler,
Of gratitude not a dissever.
You do not inflict suffering,
You do not go about destroying,
As so many sadists over cruelties wallowing.

And yet, we are all aware,
Of a thinking brain for us to beware,
Of high values to maintain
Or at least shirk from harm by might or main,
For the Great Lord made us in His image,
The finest of all creatures and not a mirage.
But with a brain sage.
As a boon or a free wage.
