OH DONNY BOY (Sonnet) / Poem by Leonard Dabydeen

Poem by Leonard Dabydeen

OH DONNY BOY
(Sonnet)

Be not this courageous, Oh Donny Boy
To cast mask like cataract in your eyes;
Whiff of truth is intensely so employ
That wearing a mask certainly saves lives.

How so must people bear your insolence
Of counting our dead and dying as fake;
And loss of family, friends lack credence
While you cry foul, untruth, no matter stake.

Hear you, Donny Boy, live not to regret
How tears are now flowing in ocean depth,
To drown your egregious swamp, just let
All effrontery be cloaked in dark stealth.

Rich lies will beget you no greater wealth;
And there’s no magic wand, don’t you forget.
