GREY SKY AND RAINLESS CLOUDS / Poem by Jagdish Prakash

Poem by Jagdish Prakash

GREY SKY AND RAINLESS CLOUDS

Rain had stopped
But I still kept twirling my feel in the puddle of rainwater
Sky grew from grey to greyer
Wind shrieked and silence hissed
A frog suddenly jumped in the puddle and croaked
Something within me whispered
‘Pleasure of being young is slowly getting lost but you still think
Dark clouds will still yield more rain’
Suddenly I felt an itch in my toe
And saw the skin on my feet shrink
Clouds in sky were drifting
Another shade of grey emerged
Like that on my receding hairline
Frog took another leap and jumped away
But I continued to sit dangling my feet
In the puddle of still water
Hoping for the rain to start again.
