IS IT A DREAM? / Poem by Lily Swarn

Poem by Lily Swarn
A palace in India amidst thunderous thud of hooves
Turbaned magnificence roaring in stony corridors
Reverberating, resounding walls with cries of war
Hair raising shrieks of toppling heads piled in heartless heaps
Diaphanous veils of translucent silks
Playing peek a boo with bosoms of satin
Glimmering auras of Kohl lined eyes
Following from behind curtains of chintz
Flowing Anarkali dresses over skin tight leggings
Gharaaras and sharaaras of gold woven brocades
Flirting mischievously with Achkans of yore
Tiaras with rubies armlets of emerald
Nose rings studded with solitaire diamonds
Visions of glamour ensconced in luxury
Another time in another life
Another dream in another bed
When wars ravaged gardens of glory
When you and I were of royal lineage
Your wound was mine
My smile your lifeline
When our hands held
A promise of many tomorrows
How could this be a dream
When I see it clearly
In every breath I take ?
