MERMAID – Roma Rizvi / Translated by: Muhammad Azram

Poem by Roma Rizvi

MERMAID

The one which flows far
From the water of rivers
Mermaid lives on those shores

From the very childhood
Endeavored to unearth her
I have been tracing dark nights

From the numerous stars
I heard many chapters of story
Asked whereabouts from soaked winds

Abortively my ears rapt
On Every single timbre of footstep
Even today —for a glimpse of mermaid
I leave my door faintly open

Whether — Mermaid exists or not
Even today— I have not been able to prosper
