foreign soils / Poem by Aprilia Zank

Poem by Aprilia Zank
foreign soils
they have been away from home
for months
digging for civilisation
in foreign soils
the days stretch ahead
like paving tiles
on endless devious streets
the hours get lengthier
the words harsher
weekends last too long
time limps by
fills cell phone units
with seemingly deceptive
female words
after the backgammon
after the beer
after the free TV porn show
palms thirst
for the velvet of breasts
these coarse, callous palms
that dig in peregrine
incurious soils.

  1. This poem evokes a sentiment and creates a mood of a lascivious desire wrapping the emptiness created by loved ones who have been away for long. Images created in poet’s simple words are like strumming notes of a cello played late night in a dark room.
