A smile / Poem by Myriam Ghezaïl Ben Brahim

Poem by Myriam Ghezaïl Ben Brahim

A smile

A smile
It’s the magical gift
That we give and receive
A touch of the soul
A butterfly that spreads its wings
Huge and fragile
A basket of blooming flowers
A bouquet of intoxicating scents
Often unusual

A smile
It’s the whisper of the wind
On dreams on tears
A quiet strength
A bird of silence that flies away
Huge
The blond meadow of a bottomless sky
The strange waltz of words
Indicable

Yes, a smile
It’s a flake of tenderness
That we give and receive
Who sows with all the wind
The intense presence the intense call
The intense thirst for what he gives
And who spins around
Imperceptible shivering-tenderness
With open heart hatched
From one look to the other
Who comes to snuggle up shy and triumphant
On the shore at eyelid level
Shadows of light
With a heartfelt sorrow
Like a hoped-for manna
Extends his hand to the hand
Beggar
Exhausted from the silent noise
And finally soothes at last
From the breeze of his breath
All tears and screams

Yes, a smile
It is the touch of the soul
For the one who receives it
The huge and deployed wing
From the one who gives it

A smile
It is the gift of life
Beyond any pain.
