A child of war / Poem by Hana Shishiny

Poem by Hana Shishiny

A child of war

I used to be a child of the sun
Playing with golden rays
Leaping in dreams of happy days
Life scrolling, in joy and fun..

I used to have a sunny home
Mother filled it with flowers of love..
Jasmine fragrant.. Velvety dove
A family united, in laughters and warmth

Don’t look at me now, solely lost
On the streets of the world, in cities so cold..
Homeless, no walls to shelter my pain
No family to conceal, my frightened ghosts

I left mum on the ground
In blood
House’s ceiling, in stones and shreds
Country in flames, running people around
In seas.. Through lands mountains, and wood..

Solely in labyrinths of hatred
Seeking a faint light of a peaceful tomorrow
Hearing the weeping of refugees in sorrow
Millions, spread in the Globe, abandoned.
