IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES / Poem by Aabha Rosy Vatsa

Poem by Aabha Rosy Vatsa

IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES

If tomorrow never come
I would have no regrets
For I grew up in the lap of nature
Mercifully before technology became our habit
I tasted the salt of my tears
Just as I tasted the sweetness of the first rain shower
And inhaled petrichor
Getting high on Monsoons

If tomorrow never comes
I would have no regrets
Because I chased butterflies
Observed mulberry cocoons
Waded in muddy pools chasing frogs
And applied crushed henna leaves on my palms

If tomorrow never comes
I would have no regrets
As I enjoyed movies that made me dream
I enjoyed swimming in the pools
Admired a riot of rose gardens
And Autumn picnics

If tomorrow never comes
I would have no regrets
Because I wore the fanciest clothes in my teens
Which Mum stitched for me
Read, Albert Camus and Daphne du Maurier
And lived in Africa
Experiencing a brand new culture.

If tomorrow never comes
I would have no regrets
As I have experienced the ecstasy of the first kiss
And experienced pangs of true love
I poured out my heart in poems
And wrestled with words to tell stories

If tomorrow never comes
I would have no regrets
Because I have loved unconditionally
And experienced the joys of motherhood
Practised empathy and kindness
Meditated and experienced contentment

If tomorrow never comes
I would be ready to leave this life
And be reborn as myself
All over again
